Where were the pubs and clubs you visited? When were they gay and who ran them? Were you involved in the women’s movement? Did you belong to a local group? Were you an activist or campaigner?
Our history is a jigsaw and by assembling hundreds of pieces we can build a picture of our history and heritage. We want your pieces of that picture.
Tell us if you think information on this website is not correct or you can provide more details. Maybe you have old diaries that can date the opening of a new pub or club; photos that record an event.
Use the comments boxes in this website, or fill in the ‘Tell Us’ page.
Tell us your story
Our principal aim is to carry out oral history interviews to preserve a record of our lives. We are interested in your story no matter how old (or young) you are. We particularly want to hear recollections pre-1980s.
Did you ‘come out’ in Bristol? How did you meet others? Did you experience loss of job or rejection by friends or families? Were you convicted? Who has been the most important person in your life? Who was your first romance?
We’d love to make an audio recording of your life story. If you prefer write down your recollections and post/email them to us.
We take privacy very seriously. If you wish you can be open and use your own name; alternatively your contribution can be anonymous. Tell us if you want restrictions on who can read your story – maybe only bona fide researchers. You can even stipulate that it will remain totally confidential for many years or until after your death.
Having a clear out?
Old community group newsletters, pamphlets, posters, badges, T-shirts, club flyers, letters, postcards. We’d love them.
Making a will? How about bequeathing your photos, diaries, love letters.
